This amazing Smash Design project was one for the history books! We had the privilege to sculpt and build the stage set for President Trump’s Commander-in-Chief Inaugural Ball In Washington, D.C.
The event was geared toward military service members and celebrated the President’s 2025 inauguration. The ball featured performers including Rascal Flatts, Parker McCollum, Kid Rock, and others. The President and the First Lady entered the stage set we designed and built and danced to “An American Trilogy” by Elvis.
Smash Design was contracted to create the White House-inspired stage set for the inaugural ball. Our team worked fast following the election to design and build the massive columns and entablatures (those are the pieces that sit on top!).
We sculpted each piece out of huge slabs of styrofoam and hard coated them for durability—after all, they had to safely make the journey from our studio in Texas to Washington, D.C.! Each piece had to be rigid enough to bear weight, including the video screens on either side of the portico. Everything we build is strong and sturdy!
The stage set was painted using automotive paint to make it all pop. We love using automotive paint due to its exceptional durability, high-quality color depth, and smooth, glossy finish. The colors were all mixed according to the ball organizer’s brand guidelines. Nailing the perfect gold for the stars on the stage of an inaugural ball is harder than it looks! Fortunately, we’ve perfected our process over the course of many high-profile events.
It was truly humbling to see our work on television, broadcast live from the nation’s capitol. Our whole team is incredibly proud to have created a stage set that was witnessed from all over the world and will be recorded in American history. We worked hard on it!
