When it comes to live events, nothing tops the Super Bowl! At Smash Design, we’re always excited to tackle new challenges and push the boundaries of what’s possible with our custom sculpture and fabrication work. Our latest project—creating larger-than-life sculptures for the NFL Commissioner’s Party during Super Bowl LIX weekend in New Orleans—was an opportunity to raise our game to a championship level!
The Beaded Super Bowl Logo
The centerpiece of our work for this high-profile event was a massive 3D Super Bowl LIX logo, standing over eight feet tall. Crafted from durable, lightweight foam and hard-coated for a glossy finish, this sculpture made a huge impact as guests enjoyed the exclusive party. But we didn’t stop there! To pay homage to the Super Bowl’s host city of New Orleans, we covered the entire logo in 100,000 colorful Mardi Gras beads, painstakingly applied by hand!
It was a MASSIVE amount of work, requiring countless hours of careful design, placement, and finishing. But the result was a one-of-a-kind, Instagram-worthy creation that perfectly captured the massive excitement for the Big Game in the Big Easy.
The Lombardi Trophy Sculpture
Of course, we HAD to go the extra mile to create an awe-inspiring piece of art. So, in addition to the beaded Super Bowl logo, we also sculpted a gigantic replica of the iconic Lombardi Trophy, standing over 12 feet tall! After all, there’s no bigger prize in sports!
This sculpture was finished with dazzling metallic automotive paint, making it a perfect backdrop for the elegant event space.
Following the Gameplan
As with all of our work, these Super Bowl sculptures required meticulous attention to detail and adherence to the NFL’s strict brand guidelines. Our team worked closely with the league’s representatives to ensure that every element, from the shape of the logo to the angle of the trophy, was brand-perfect. We used digital software to ensure that every detail was true to life. And of course, both sculptures had to be engineered to withstand transport, installation, and enthusiastic fan interactions!
A Labor of Love
Creating these sculptures was a true labor of love for the Smash Design team. All in all, the project required over 1,000 hours of sculpting, coating, beading, and assembly work. But seeing the finished products on stage at the star-studded NFL Commissioner’s Party—and knowing that they would be broadcast to millions of viewers around the world—made it all worthwhile.
