Giant 20 Foot TV for the American Advertising Federation Addy Awards

Overview

Smash Design partnered with the American Advertising Federation to create a custom stage prop for a Mad Men-themed awards ceremony. The goal was to build a large, vintage-style television that would serve as a centerpiece for the event.

However, this was no ordinary prop. The television needed to look authentic while also functioning as a real display.

As a result, we designed and built a 20-foot television with a working projection screen inside. In the end, the piece delivered both visual impact and real performance on stage.

Giant TV Prop for Event

Process

To begin, we designed the structure to match the look of a classic 1960s television. At the same time, we engineered the frame to support its large size and internal components.

Next, we constructed the body using durable materials that could handle transport and setup. This ensured the structure remained stable throughout the event.

We then installed a projection screen inside the frame. Because of this, the prop functioned like a real television during the ceremony.

Finally, we completed the exterior with detailed finishes. These details gave the piece an authentic retro look that matched the Mad Men theme.

Results

The finished television became the focal point of the awards ceremony. As guests entered the space, the massive display immediately captured attention.

In addition, the working screen added a functional element to the design. This helped elevate the overall production value of the event.

Most importantly, the project showed how creative ideas can become real, working installations. Many organizations have bold concepts but lack the ability to build them.

At Smash Design, we bridge that gap. As a result, we turn ideas into custom stage props and experiential displays that leave a lasting impression.
