The Smash Design team couldn’t be more proud of the reputation we’re getting as the go-to fabricators for giant championship rings! We’ve had the privilege of sculpting rings for multiple NFL and MLB franchises. We’ve even created a giant-sized version of the Lombardi Trophy! But our latest large-scale replica is even colder than Ice Cube: a massive, precise recreation of the Super Bowl XI championship ring for the Las Vegas Raiders!
This project for the 2026 NFL season is part of a growing body of work that places Smash Design in a category of our own. Each new championship ring commission pushes our craft a little further. On this Raiders ring, it took a lot of finishing to capture every intricate detail of one of the most storied championships in NFL history. Especially at a scale that stops fans dead in their tracks!
Here’s how we took the historic ring and blew it up:
Process
Replicating a historic Super Bowl ring at monumental scale from EPS foam is pretty demanding! Every surface, every facet, and every engraved detail has to be accurate enough to satisfy NFL standards. (Not to mention crazy, diehard fans!) Remember, this had to to perform as a durable, interactive display that can be set up and taken down quickly. And it still had to stand up to the bruising love of Raider fans!
Our creative process went like this:
- Research and Reference Development: We started by reviewing detailed reference material on the original Super Bowl XI ring, studying every element of its design. The shield geometry, engraved lettering, stone setting, and metallic finishes were all measured and mapped. This research phase is critical to achieving the level of accuracy that separates a replica from a tribute.
- 3D Modeling: Using the reference library, a precise 3D digital model of the ring took shape. We reviewed very surface, angle, and raised detail of the model before any fabrication began. This step allowed us to review the final sculptural design and identify the biggest challenges early in the process, like the finely crafted scrollwork and lettering on the ring band.
- CNC Foam Carving: With the model finalized, the team programmed our CNC routers to carve the ring parts from blocks of high-density EPS foam. CNC carving gave us the computerized accuracy needed to perfectly replicate the ring’s complex shape, beveled edges, and surface details at an imposing scale.
- Hand Sculpting and Detailing: After CNC carving established the primary form, sculptors moved to refine every surface. Fine lettering, decorative engravings, and the simulated diamonds were carefully shaped by our artisans. We paid a lot of attention to those diamonds, in particular, perfecting each facet and setting.
- Hardcoating for Durability: Once sculpting was complete, we applied our specialized hardcoat across every surface of the ring. This process gives the finished piece a tough, impact-resistant shell that protects the sculpture through thousands of public interactions and photo ops. It had to be tough, because Raiders fans are not gentle!
- Hand Painting and Finishing: We finished the ring with a one-of-a-kind, hand-painted skin. Shiny silver tones, deep shadow work, and brilliantly rendered diamonds were layered with care to create a surface that looks luxurious and authentic from every angle. The finished piece captures the prestige and legacy of a Super Bowl championship in a way that photographs beautifully and commands attention in person.
Once everything was dry, we transported the ring from Texas to Las Vegas!
Result
The completed Super Bowl XI ring replica appeared in Las Vegas, giving Raiders fans an unforgettable, larger-than-life encounter with franchise history. The sculpture delivers the kind of interactive brand experience that transforms the team’s biggest fans into digital brand ambassadors. We love turning moments into memories!
