Overview
Smash Design partnered with Freeman and Fanatics Fest NYC 2025 to create bold, large-scale sculptures of the Statue of Liberty. However, this was not a traditional version of the iconic landmark.
Instead, the goal was to reimagine Lady Liberty as a sports superstar. These sculptures needed to capture the energy of a major fan event while honoring a recognizable New York symbol.
As a result, our team designed and built two oversized pieces. One featured a dramatic baseball home run catch, while the other showcased a WWE championship celebration.
In the end, these sculptures served as both artistic centerpieces and interactive photo opportunities for thousands of attendees.
Process
To begin, our team created detailed concept illustrations. These designs helped define the poses, proportions, and overall look of each sculpture.
Next, we developed precise 3D models using CAD software. This allowed us to refine details such as the crown, robes, and sports elements.
Once approved, we moved into fabrication. Using CNC machines, we carved each sculpture from high-density foam. Because of this process, we achieved strong detail while keeping the structures manageable in weight.
Then, our team assembled the sculptures in sections. This step ensured safe transport and proper structural support.
After assembly, we began the finishing process. First, we sanded each surface to create a smooth base. Next, we applied a protective hardcoat for durability.
Finally, our scenic artists painted each piece using custom-mixed finishes. As a result, the sculptures achieved the classic oxidized copper look, along with bold sports details.
Meanwhile, our team handled logistics and installation in New York City. We positioned each sculpture for maximum visibility and crowd interaction.

Results
The finished sculptures became standout attractions at Fanatics Fest NYC. As attendees entered the space, the larger-than-life designs immediately drew attention.
In addition, the pieces created high-impact photo opportunities. Fans lined up to take pictures and share them across social media.
Because of this engagement, the activation extended beyond the event itself. It generated strong online visibility and audience interaction.
Most importantly, the project showed how iconic imagery can be transformed into immersive experiences. At Smash Design, we create large-scale sculptures and experiential installations that connect with audiences and deliver results.
